Every electrical installation has power transformers, dry type transformers and HV motors. There is common phenomenon of insulation failure due to switching transients due to vacuum circuit breakers and other switchgears. Multiple switching and re-striking (re-ignitions) of vacuum breakers huge losses are incurred due to insulation failure.
Surge capacitors are used in parallel with HV motors and transformers, eliminating the current chopping, voltage escalation, repetitive pre-ignition and virtual current chopping. Re-striking causing high frequency oscillating current through the breaker will be reduced from hundreds of kHz to few kHz by adding surge capacitor in circuit.
